Rams make roster changes

RAMS MAKE ROSTER CHANGES

The Canterbury Rams have made a mid-season roster change for one of their import slots with forward Kyle Coston being replaced by guard Jermaine Taylor.   This addresses a positional roster imbalance that has emerged with the development of a number of kiwi players and persistent nagging injuries.  The move is the only option to rebalance the side so the Rams can perform to potential.

“This has been a tough call on Kyle as he has done everything we have asked of him both on and off the court during his time here”, said Rams Coach, Mark Dickel. “Kyle has been a complete professional and contributed well to the club during the 4 win-3 loss start to the season. We wish him all the best as he continues his professional career elsewhere.” said Rams Coach Mark Dickel.

The NZ forward line-up has really stepped up including young Sam Timmins and Richie Edwards alongside American Centre Mickell Gladness.  Also former Australian NBL and Southland Sharks Centre, New Zealander Gareth Dawson is a recent arrival to Christchurch and will join the squad on May 15.

Unfortunately Canterbury stalwart point guard Jeremy Kench, who always plays with intense passion for the Red and Black jersey, has suffered some nagging injuries which have restricted his play.  Kench, a former Tall Black, is a full-time police officer and the Rams do not want to burn him out by overloading him while he is managing his niggling injuries.

Adding combo guard Jermaine Taylor will add depth and firepower to the guard line-up and provide a better balanced roster as the Rams move into some important games.

Jermaine Taylor, 6’5”, is a former NBA player with 65 games experience with the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings, where in his first career start for the Rockets he scored 15 points against the Los Angeles Lakers.  Taylor, 28, had a successful career with the University of Central Florida, and was selected 32nd overall in the 2009 NBA draft.  He has played multiple seasons in the NBDL, most recently with the Idaho Stampede.   Taylor played with Gladness with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBDL.
