Rams pull off convincing victory over Pistons

The Canterbury Rams belied their cellar-dwellar status with a convincing 99-84 victory over mid-table Waikato in a national league men's basketball match in Christchurch today.

The Rams shut out the visitors who the previous night had toppled Nelson at home, blitzing them in the second quarter to streak ahead 51-26 by halftime.

Waikato was kept scoreless for nearly seven minutes from the start of the second quarter while the Rams rained in baskets from everywhere at almost 70%.

Richie Edwards (31), import Marcel Jones (28), Ethan Rusbatch (18) and Glen Dandridge (15) all shared in the scoring spree as the Rams improved their season record to three wins from 13 matches.

Waikato leant heavily on three players, Akeem Wright (25), Corin Henry (23) and Casey Frank (13) but had not have the talent spread the Rams possessed.

A return joust with Waikato in Hamilton on Sunday is on the Rams agenda next weekend as part of an away doubleheader starting firstly with Saints in Wellington on Friday night.
